Plumbing is a basic thing of every house and it s most common and basic thing that one should have a vital knowledge of what a plumbing system in your home is all about and how it works. So such vital knowledge regarding plumbing no doubt helps in understanding the situation if any problem arose with the plumbing system. The plumbing system basically, brings the water from the fresh source into the home and distributes it properly to the places where you want water to be present, and this system collects all the used water and waste from the toilet and take transfer it down to the main underground drainage system, which takes it away from the home. This article gives a step by step route of the water in the home and the types of pipe used.
Firstly; water enters the home via main pipe and goes to water meter, from where it flows to a regulator and then flow in two pipes, one feeing the water heater and other having the cold water and supplying it where we need it. Secondly; before the water supply divide off to the hot water heater, there will be a split between the indoor and outside water supply. The indoor supply regarding plumbing is in retreat through a water softener or filter, and the outdoor supply goes to supply sprinklers, spigots etc. Thirdly; the main pipelines are 1 to 3/4 inch in diameter and side branches are of diameter.
Fourthly; the used or waste water exits the house through wastewater system, which has a trap at a fixture, where small amount of water is trapped so that the gas does not flow back in to the house and cause smell. Fifthly; now the water will pass through a T with one end going up and the other down. The branch that goes up will make its way up through the roof to let in air to compensate for any vacuum that the water going down the pipe creates, so to maintain the flow of the water and to prevent blockage. Sixthly; as the waste flows out in to the main sewer system, it will flow through a number cleanouts in shape of T , with its stem at 45 degree angle. These cleanout helps in cleaning the pipe if a clog occurs in the pipe and blocks the flow. Seventhly, there are specific types of pipes used in system. Freshwater uses, copper, CPVC, or PEX pipes. All of these pipes have specific characteristics and plumbers choose the best one for a specific job.
Eighthly; Wastewater usually travels through, ABS, cast iron or CPVC pipes. However ABS pipe is the most preferred one in new homes. Furthermore such waste water pipes are usually larger in diameter as compare to the freshwater pipes. So these pipes which have been labeled as waste water pipes made in such a way that they collect all the wastewater of the home and take it to the main sewerage line outside the home. So this is a basic concept of how water enters and leaves a home and what types of pipes are basically used on this system. There are some specific tools that are used to maintain this system in working condition, but that is a plumber s headache to find a right tool to solve problem.
